Honestly this has been so much fun to do - I have been sewing for my shop and customers so much recently that it was nice to take some time out and make something for myself. I decided to keep it easy as what with my recent job hunting escapades and online shop I didn't want to get too stressed out with taking some time out for me so I decided to create myself a notebook similar to ones I am selling online:

Here is the front:

Here is the inside:

Here is the inside with my bits and pieces added:

and here is the back which I have kept plain:

I also had a backup plan in case I didn't get my item finished in time which is this:

its a heart wreath that I made at my local sewing group in December - I thought I would still showcase it as I haven't blogged it up until now.

Anyway that's all my offerings for this hop but please join in and go visit everyone else who is showcasing today, they are:

Thanks for looking - Got myself a job from SolihullSunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28589371.post-80644921594804623482017-12-29T12:44:00.000+00:002017-12-29T12:44:27.862+00:00Who'd have thoughtThat when I decided to have a little break from blogging, basically to catch up with friends in real life more and to sit in front of a few box sets creating new knitting and crocheting projects it would be for over a year!! Well the time has returned when I feel the need to get off my settee, throw open my door and step out into the sunshine and be more social online again. I have to say I have missed the enthusiasm and inspiration of blogs as I haven't been reading any for a while now but I have still spent most of my crafting so don't worry I have loads to share now!

My first showing is going to be my new found love of the Toft Edward menagerie items. When I first saw Clarence the Bat hanging on a stall at the NEC I knew I had to have him, so in the theme of the ever popular elf on the shelf craze here are my much loved new crocheted additions to our home:

Clarence the Bat aka Ed in the Shed

Next to come along was Georgina the Hippo, here she is as Ed on the Bed

Then a challenge and the loveliness that is Blake the Orang-utan showcased as Ed with Ted

Then at the NEC this November I fell in love in with this pirate - those who know me will understand!! so here is Ed on the Seabed:

Thank you to the lovely Shelley over at Motivate Me Now for the loan of the fish tank!

Then here is one of my own creations as when I bought the doll emporium book to make the pirate I was inspired by the grooms coat to make a vampire - don't ask me why but that is just how my mind works!!! so here is Ed the Undead:
Lastly, but not least, I managed to grab Dylan the monster for a bargain from John Lewis so he was lovingly made and given to my youngest for Christmas and here he is as Ed on Santa's Head:

I decided to use the scraps (which are the orange and blue squares) as window frames to depict two cats talking to each other across rooms. I know I should have used a brick patterned embossed background but I was in a hexagon mood and let's face it anything goes with me!

The background is embossing paste through a hexagon stencil and then inked with Fossilized Amber, Mermaid Lagoon, Wilted Violet, Abandoned Coral distress inks and then sprayed with both Gold and Silver distress sprays. The cats are from Tim's Crazy cats stamps and dies and coloured with Mowed Lawn, Spiced Marmalade and Spun Sugar. The window backgrounds are made up with Card-io backyard blooms - the spider and web and a brick wall stamp by Prima. Whole card and greeting are then edged with Hickory Smoke and Black Soot inks.

I actually made this card way back in April but as you can see I have not been blogging much recently! I have however been busy crafting away as usual so will hopefully get back into the swing of blogging more regularly and will showcase my stuff then - I still haven't done much in the way of papercrafting though (in fact this is the only card for months!) but am still busy knitting and sewing like a trooper here. Such fun.

Anyway this card goes to show that no matter how small it is don't throw anything away!! Any scraps can be made into something quirky if you put your mind to it. Saying that I have spent the last two weeks decluttering and reorganising my craft room - am now raring to go again so watch this space!
Have been busy working behind the scenes with lots of new makes, most recently this has been lots of knitting! I have returned to an old passion of mine and whilst creating myself a complete hand made wardrobe I decided to throw in some knitwear for good measure.

I have also finally gotten around to using up some old jeans from the pile I have amassed over the years. Here are my first attempts at two handbags:

Finally I have gotten a chance to play today! Whoo hoo - have left the children to sort themselves out and whilst they are happily playing on their Xbox's I have got out some of the new bits and pieces I have bought recently (one die I only bought this morning!) and some others that I, er, bought quite a while ago but have been sitting there waiting patiently in their packaging for me!

So I decided to have a go at Tims August tag as this months was right up my street. I haven't changed it much as I liked the sample so much!

Mine has been mounted onto a card rather than doing a tag this month - for the background I have used Ripe Persimmon and Pumice Stone stains - not my usual colour palette but I just grabbed the first two out of my vast collection of stains, talk about living on the edge eh! And as for brayered stains, I can honestly say I have never used this technique before! Where was I, how did I miss it??? feeling really rather confused about it I can tell you! Also I think my Pumice Stone stain has had it as it is now mainly all green rather than stone but hey ho it made for an interesting background, and I will definately be using this technique again in the future - so simple and yet so lovely (mind you aren't they all!).

I then used my new, been sitting there waiting patiently in the packaging for me for months, wave frameworks die. I cut the frame out of kraft cardstock and painted it with Broken China, again the colour just picked out randomly but thankfully it all goes together nicely! The bits in between are cut out of black or kraft cardstock, some London fabric from a top I have just made, some Calico and a book page - all edges were inked with Vintage Photo on the pieces and Ground Espresso on the frame. Oh and I inked the background with Vintage Photo and splattered it with water (something I don't usually do) and inked the edges with Ground Espresso too.

I finished with white diecut wildflowers inked with Black Soot - again this is in an newish unused die but I did cut out the flowers a while ago and they were just sitting there waiting to be used so I used them rather than cut out more in black cardstock (basically because my sizzix machine and dies are now downstairs and I was too impatient to get sticking down rather than move myself!). I then finished with a 2016 cut out with the brand new Stencil Numbers sizzix die I bought this morning as it was on sale in Hobbycraft - can't beat a bargain eh! and then a couple of words from Tims ChitChat sticker set. For once I haven't sewn on the card but hand stamped using a couple of background stamps from the City Central set.

Thats it - whoo! For details to see how to create the tag/card pop over to Tims blog here

Anyway here are two quick makes:

A distressed layered collage:

I never actually do collages - not sure why I neither like nor loathe them but thought I would give this a go with just some bits I had ready made in my go to box. I don't have the plain tissue paper and although I have some printed tissue paper I decided to use an old sewing pattern instead - not sure what all the collaged bits and pieces are but the stamps I have used directly onto the finished piece are from Tims City Central set and I also had to use glue n seal instead of collage medium.

I have also had a quick go at distressed grit paste grunge piece:

however I don't have any grit paste either so this was done using texture paste over an eroded metal piece of work which I also found in my go to box (as you do!). Not sure I like this much but I don't have time to finish it just it yet so maybe it will grow on me when I finally do!

Thanks for looking - eagerly awaiting CC103 Day four in SolihullSunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28589371.post-58870994053516418532016-08-03T09:15:00.001+01:002016-08-03T09:17:40.117+01:00A flurry of inkyness!Well I think my inky mojo might have finally returned after its long semester!! I knew I could rely on Tim to get the motivation flying again!

I am taking part in Creative Chemistry 103 - I was hoping to do the two reruns of 101 and 102 over the past few weeks too but that just didn't happen what with DS2 leaving Junior school, holidays and my sewing frenzy for a new wardrobe but I did tune in yesterday to 103 (I actually forgot on Monday but I was busy completing Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens on the xbox with DS2 to 100% - whoo hoo!! - I feel I have to grasp these moments fiercely now as he will be at senior school in September and will no doubt not want to play lego games with Mom for much longer! - don't worry though I am not ashamed to play them by myself!!!).

Anyway I have made a card this morning!!! Before 9am too - blimey! First time in ages that I have sat down and just played rather than planned a workshop or made a product to sell in the shop and I must say it is a welcome relief!!

I decided to do the Distress Stain Rub Resist technique as I have done this a lot in the past so was a bit in my comfort zone however I did cut up the rub on sheet and place random rubons around the card - even ripping some which, believe me, is way out of my comfort zone, I even smudged some of my stamping too!! so I feel I have achieved a lot this morning already!

I used mustard seed, spiced marmalade, abandoned coral and broken china distress spray stains (all of which were bought six months ago and still had the seals on!), Special Delivery rub ons, Ground Espresso ink around the edges and then stamps from the Life's Possibilities, Travel Blueprint and Little Labels sets. Finished simply with some metal glasses (no idea where they are from but aren't they cute!) and some red jute which I think I bought from Tiger.

I now have to sit and wait patiently for about 5 hours for todays class! Might just go make another card....

Thanks for looking - inky fingers from SolihullSunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28589371.post-44975583366312104842016-07-29T10:15:00.002+01:002016-07-29T10:15:42.375+01:00I'm still here!Well hello there, thought I would write a blog post! I know I have been unactive online recently (well for about a year really!) but I am going to try to get back into the swing of blogging about my antics and reading about lots of others too!

Some of this past year has been spent with me peddling my wares again on the high street - it is such a fantastic feeling to actually sell your artwork to someone face to face, there isn't much that can top it really! The shop has now sadly closed as the lease ran out and there are a lot of changes going on on the Solihull High Street with Touchwood 2 gradually appearing that it wasn't a viable option to keep the shop open for the time being but who knows! watch this space....

Anyway I have spent the last few weeks spending time in school with my second son who is now going to be starting Senior School in September - gulp - where did all that time go?

I have also been making lots of crafty projects, let's be honest I never really stop! but mainly crocheted or sewn - sadly I seem to have lost my inspiration for inky projects despite purchasing a few new sizzix dies, inks and stamps over the past few months! (all are still sitting in the bags and packaging that they came in!!). Hopefully inspiration may return next week when I will be undertaking Tim's new Creative Chemistry course - whoop!

A couple of things I have made recently are some jeans!!!! Finally I have two pairs that fit me perfectly - here they are:

The front of my eclectic elements pair:

I have also recently made myself 10 tops from three different patterns which I keep tweeking and using different fabrics for so you really can't tell that they are repeated and finally I feel that I am now a seamstress!! Something I have wanted to do for years but never had the time to put to it, but now I have knuckled down and made time (which is half the reason for less time spent on the internet!) and am now finally getting my own bespoke wardrobe - much more rewarding than walking down the street and seeing someone else in the same top as you! And let's face it my stuff is very bespoke as not many nearly 50 year olds wear walking dead tops and jeans do they! and as for my robot top, well that's just so cute too!! I might blog them soon but let's not jump the gun too quick eh!!

Anyway that's it from me for now - I will be popping round a few blogs in next few weeks to get me back into the swing of things.
I picked up the pattern and a kit (which are the fabrics in the first picture) at the Malvern Quilt show last May and once I got going they didn't take long at all to make.
We all decided that we had been putting off going to Libertys for our cream tea too long and decided to make Monday 29th February the day to go.

Off we all set at 11.30 (cheapest train!) and upon arrival went on the London Eye which was surprisingly quiet. Here is the infamous hat on tour:

We also took in a trip to the M&M shop (rude not to!):

and then finally ended up at our destination:

and here was our lovely cream tea:
Must have been the excitement I guess - anyway don't panic as I still managed to spend a fortune whilst learning some new things on the way. Here is the result of my first class:

I have been looking at the Powertex stuff for about three years now but always keep putting off getting some as I don't have time to learn a new hobby but I decided this year that what the heck I would fit it in after all! As you can guess I obviously love this and have bought the starter kit to get myself making more stuff at home - it's still in the bag but hopefully I should get to have a play this week! Whoo Hoo.

My other class was on the Sugar Buttons stall where Louise and I made some flowers out of air dry clay - obviously I then bought five more moulds and a flower cutter to add to my ever growing collection of moulds and have had a little play this morning (as you do - I couldn't play yesterday as OH had a birthday party!) I will show the results of these when they are dry, painted, mounted and whatever else I can think to do with them (so exciting!).

Thanks for looking - busy making classes in SolihullSunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28589371.post-19640319684771030692016-02-28T16:57:00.000+00:002016-02-28T16:57:17.273+00:00Just a quick postI made this card a couple of weeks ago but I seem to be having a few blogger problems at the moment as it takes me about half an hour to sign in! Oh well serves me right for having a blogging break I guess (although I seem to remember this was one reason why I stopped blogging so much too!) - anyway I have managed to sign in before the end of the challenge entry time over on tims blog so I will enter this card:

I had great fun inking the card first with tea dye, then applying vintage photo and gathered twigs stains with a stencil and then playing with my new ranger texture paste (only had the transparent one and other makes before so when I saw the new stamp lines in at Dyans I treated myself to both sets and the texture paste - whoop). It's lovely to play with and it was fun to add the embossing powder too as I hadn't tried this before although my first attempts with distress embossing powder and a glow in the dark powder didn't come out as well and therefore didn't make the final cut!

I then coloured in one of cat stamps with distress markers and stamped, coloured and cut out the ball of wool from the same set too (my favourite stamps at the moment). I had to fussy cut the images out as I don't have the corresponding die set yet - wasn't quite sure how to add the sentiment without hiding half of the wall so I just stamped directly onto the background something else I haven't done for a while too.

Anyway this my take on the February challenge - hope you like it. At the moment I currently busy restocking my shelves in Naissance De with some new artwork which has been fun. I am also very excited today as I am off to London tomorrow with the girls as we are going on a day trip to Liberty's - can't wait! Probably won't sleep with the excitement of all it tonight!

I know its been such a long time since I have been on blogger but I took part in Tim's tag this month so I thought I would share it!

I had some free time Friday to just have a nice play and thought the tag would be pretty quick and simple to do. However when I discovered that I don't own any frosted crystal embossing powder I had a go with some Stampin Up heat and stick embossing powder which didn't give the right results, I then tried a normal embossing ink along with a clear embossing powder and that didn't look quite right either but I was going to go with it (I used Tim's typewriter stamp which was all layered up and good to be stuck down) when this lovely little parcel arrived from Art from the Heart

so obviously they needed to be used straight away so, third time lucky, I used a normal embossing ink and white embossing powder - totally cheating I know but hey, I was just having fun!

This is my finished tag:

Very simple for me really. I decided to give the cat an extra layer (the base, cat's body, and then cat's face make up three layers) so for the fourth I gave the cat some black eyes - I know they don't usually have black eyes but they looked more effective than white I thought. I also added the blue wool ball using two layers of the stamp which was embossed with Broken China distress powder. The quote is done with silver embossing powder and the brick wall background is the Industrious Metal technique done as it should be! For details of all the techniques and other tag entries pop over to Tim's blog. I finished the tag off with blue wool for a tie - do you remember when wool was all the rage on tags back in the day???

All in all a fun little play even though it took a lot longer than it should have!

Thanks for looking - Rediscovering the love for my embossing powders in Solihull

I am again in a local designers shop this time called Naissance De which is a collaboration of local artists selling our products which range from pictures, sewn items, a lot of bridal items and, of course, my infamous Christmas Tags! The shop is located in the exactly the same one as last time which is on Drury Lane - right next door to Regis and between the High Street and Mell Square (just up from BHS). The grand opening is today so if you are in the area please pop in and say hi - there will be a live band and we also have local reporters visiting.

This venture will be lasting six months this time so you can imagine how busy I have been behind the scenes preparing all my new stock!

Thanks for looking - Off on an adventure in Solihull (All very, very exciting!)

I used resist kraft cardstock to cut out a coffin shape which I then inked with vintage photo with black soot around the edges, I then inked over with black soot using a bat stencil to highlight certain areas. I don't have any of the dimensional dies yet so I went for a silhouette and frame which are mounted with 3d foam so they are slightly dimensional but it doesn't really show on the picture. The frame was cut from kraft cardstock and coloured using Antique Bronze distress paint and then some bronze inka gold - the silhouette is plain black cardstock. To give a bit more dimension I decided to add a bloody flower - this was harder to create than I thought! I melted red UTEE in my melting pot and held the flower up so that it dripped down to look like blood - I then heated it with a heat gun to finish and managed to melt a great globule but hey ho it still looks like blood so I left as is and finished with a black leaf again tinted with bronze inka gold for a bit of sparkle. The ticket is stamped on kraft card and swoosh through Antique Bronze paint the same as the frame and I finished the whole thing off with a fabulous skull and crossbow.

Thanks for looking - Feeling spooky from SolihullSunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28589371.post-10644856141559819602015-09-26T08:17:00.000+01:002015-09-26T08:17:06.189+01:00Tims September TagI got a chance to have a play day a couple of weeks ago so thought I would play along with Tim and here is the outcome:

Thought I would go with a Christmas card as that is what I need to get started on! I didn't realise Frosted was different from Frosted Film so got in a bit of a pickle but when I realised I stuck the Frosted Film I had stamped and cut out onto Clearly for Art modelling film so that I could mould it and keep the frosted look on the tree. As for the transparent texture paste what a wonderful product! I don't know how I have lived this long without it! I seem to have made a load of these backgrounds now although that could be that my long gone papercrafting mojo has suddenly returned!

The background was done with a few alcohol inks, stamped with the tree and then the transparent texture paste was added whilst that dried (doesn't take that long - you certainly don't need to leave your creations over all the windowsills overnight as you do with the other texture pastes I use!) I made the holly leaves using glassine paper and alcohol inks and the pearls are from a Primark necklace again coloured with alcohol inks. The pinecone and other bits and pieces are cut from sizzix dies with the pieces then being inked and stamped to finished.

This then spurred me on to create a couple of scrapbook layouts last weekend! Something I haven't done for about three years - I might share them on the blog soon, we shall see as I have suddenly found myself really busy as I am taking part in another pop up shop in Solihull next month for a whole six months, gulp! Am so excited! Details are here: http://www.naissancede.co.uk/ my details will be added shortly. Only confirmed my space yesterday so have been busy planning already and looking forward to spending the next couple of weeks getting organised!

We managed to find 43 in all - not bad as we were winging it without a map! These were my three favourites (don't know why!):

As you can see I have left sneaky clues on the photos as to where they were found!

I have to say we had great fun trundling around and we didn't have to go far as a lot of them are situated together. If you get chance go and take a peek - I think they will be around until the end of September.
Thanks for looking - City Girl at heart from SolihullSunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28589371.post-28466828910142352972015-08-28T10:37:00.001+01:002015-08-28T10:46:23.147+01:00Tim's August 2015 tagFinally a blog post! I am still having a break from my pc hence no blogging for a while although I am still busy crafting away. I planned to spend most of the summer holidays sewing when I could and with less than a week left I have done well, erm, none! I am still working on my next crochet blanket and some other bits and pieces but have been having far too much fun with my boys to get my machine out.

I have, however, suddenly found the urge to get inky and messy again this week - finally! It seems like an age since I have played with my papers but I have learnt now that if I am not in the mood it's not worth forcing myself as I really don't enjoy it and that's definitely not what playing is all about is it! So now I just go with the flow and play when I fancy. So where do I turn to for inspiration when I feel the need to get inky?? Tims blog of course! So here is my entry for the August 2015 tag:

I have used some Lost and Found paper, a Sizzix Journey die, some ephemera that I got in one of Tim's classes - Journeys of the past, Ticket Sizzix die and matching stamp, the mini car is a chipboard Guy Thing miniature by Gina's Designs coloured with Black Soot ink, chit chat stickers - I was thinking about Duran Duran when I was making this as they are touring soon so I went with the saying "is there some place I should go" - bet you will all sing "Is there something I should know" now!! I used some photo slide tape with letters spelling out travel, the vial label is inked with Old Paper and has a Special Delivery remnant rub on it. I used a Tim spinner and not sure about the compass as to whether that's one of Tim's but it was in my Tim treasure chest! The background inks used were Shabby Shutters, Broken China, Squeezed Lemonade, Black Soot and Vintage Photo. Tag was then splattered with Picket Fence distress stain and finished with a lovely wool twine.

All in all a fun afternoon! Am half way through July's tag now too!

Really pleased with it! Its been on the settee since Friday and still hasn't had anything spilt on it! Quite a result really.

Also I did mean to blog during the last couple of weeks the graffiti lesson DS2 and I had whilst on holiday in Boscombe, here is mine:

had to be a cog! It should have been the two greys in the middle with the purple edging but as I was painting onto a grey wall it didn't work out well so I borrowed B's pink paint and used that instead.

Here is B's:
So look out Solihull skate park as we might go add our tags to the fabulous graffiti there.

Thanks for looking - all crocheted out from Solihull.Sunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28589371.post-16575753903317638612015-05-30T15:54:00.000+01:002015-05-30T19:34:41.986+01:00Wellcan you believe that not only am I writing a blog post but I have done Tim's May tag this afternoon too! The past few weeks have been hectic for me but I have made some decisions on what I want to do with my career, life and everything and am now a lot clearer in my mind so hopefully my mojo might be returning! Even if it doesn't I have been sleeping a lot better recently so it just goes to show changes were needed! Or it could just be the excitement of Aston Villa being in the FA Cup final this afternoon! It was lovely walking around Asda this morning getting in our beers and crisps ready for the match seeing lots of Villa shirts been worn - I didn't have mine on as its a few years old and I am worried it might be a tad snug (no idea why!) but I will have it on in a couple of hours time and will hide any unsightly bulges on the settee under my crochet blanket as I am sure I can crochet and watch the match at the same time - right???? we shall see....

Anyways here is my quick version of Tim's May tag:

I used a bright green hessian background from Poundland which I toned down with Tea Dye ink. Then I applied texture paste through Tims Cargo stencil and when dry the ink from underneath had bled through which I liked so I left as is rather than adding more ink. All the other bits had already been cut out and prepared and were in my "to be used when time is short" box apart from the nib and bottle which were both already cut out but I added the rubons and tea dye ink to the bottle and Pewter paint to the nib, edged it with Walnut Stain and added a bit of twine. The tag was finished with two bits of muslin which I inked with Broken China. Took me all of a couple of hours and I am hoping that this will be the new start of my papercrafting sessions again! (Not that I have lost my creativity as I have been busy sewing, knitting and crocheting but obviously there are only so many hours in the day so papercrafting has been on hold for a while). Oooh edited to add that I forgot to say the Picket Fence spray stain, that I bought a couple of months ago and had not been yet opened, was also used on this! Whoop.

We have just spent a lovely half term week in Bournemouth where my youngest son and I went on a Spray Paint Workshop - basically we got to graffiti on a large wall with spray paints in cans! Great fun and I promise I will blog all about it soon (I now have a tag and everything!) Also the huge crochet blanket for my four seater settee is coming along nicely (even that went on the trip to Bournemouth!) and I will post an update on that soon too.

Anyway gotta dash - important telly viewing about to start! Come on Villa.......

Thanks for looking - keeping everything crossed for the Villa to win from SolihullSunshine Girlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01481368732287002080noreply@blogger.com0
